Customers are increasingly sensitive to things such as drywall dust and are concerned over unnecessary exposure to the potential health risks of the silica contained in it when it becomes airborne.
Having a professional do the drywall taping reduces your exposure to this dust, since there is minimal sanding involved when someone knows what they are doing. But even a light sanding translates to a lot of dust when you are dealing with a renovation such as a basement.
We have invested in the latest in powered drywall sanding equipment combined with Shop Vacs using HEPA rated filters to greatly reduce airborne drywall dust when sanding. (see photos) In addition to the vacuum sanding, newer drywall compounds that reduce airborne dust can also be used if desired. Many contractors and homeowners have been very impressed with this new equipment that collects the dust while it is being sanded.
We have found this sanding equipment does an excellent job, not only at collecting dust, but also at leaving the walls smooth in a time-efficient manner. We have been surprised at the sheer volume of dust collected – usually 8 -20 pounds on a typical basement of pure dust! Imagine the amount of dust saved from going into the air and being distributed around your home!
